Andrea De Pastina
From as early as he can remember, Andrea has harboured a passion for all things beverage-related. Aged 17, he became a certified barman and began working on mixing cocktails and analysing the characteristics of Italian and foreign spirits. In 2011, he obtained his technical school diploma in tourism (Tecnico Polivalente Superiore del Turismo) from the European University for Tourism (UET) in Rome and wrote his dissertation on the world of rum, mapping out a tour to include some of the most renowned distilleries in the Caribbean. As a certified AIS Sommelier (Italian Sommelier Association) since 2014, he now curates and manages wine cellars for two restaurants in the Ciociaria region, about 50 minutes from Rome. Finding himself increasingly drawn to the world of sparkling wine, in 2016 he attended 'L’École de Champagne' and was taught by Roberto Bellini. He places special focus on the 'old vintages', and is fascinated by the ageing capabilities of Italian white grape varieties and the most prestigious French Burgundy red varieties. Firmly believing that the best way to taste wine is 'blinded', where tasters are unaware of the qualities and identity of the wine, the key component that Andrea looks for in wine are the sensations and feelings that they generate, which he tries to convey by telling the story of the wine.
After graduating with a second cycle degree in Architecture from the Sapienza University in Rome, straight after discussing his dissertation, he took the state examination to qualify as a practising professional and became a section A member of the Association of Architectures, Planners, Landscapers and Restorers in Rome and Province (Ordine degli Architetti Pianificatori Paesaggisti e Conservatori di Roma e Provincia). He is also qualified to practise as a construction site safety coordinator. He has worked with a number of firms in the Rome area, carrying out residential planning and three-dimensional modelling. He also partnered with the Drago Architects firm in Barcelona to take part in the international planning competition for urban and functional redevelopment, published by the Varese Town Council; the team came third. Over the past few years, Andrea's trade has been more geared towards designing for the art world. He puts together exhibitions for the Floridi Doria Pamphilj Trust, which are held in the museum apartments of the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj and the Villa del Principe in Genoa; he also organises travelling exhibitions in Italy and takes care of every step of the planning process.
